- 由于“八”和“发财”的“发”在粤语中谐音，因此不少广东人认为“八”是一个吉祥的数字。经影视媒体的渲染，加上在普通话和绝大多数汉语方言里都有这种谐音，所以不少生意人都以8为商品价钱的尾数（如$888）。而在住宅，8字尾的楼层（如18、28、38楼）会较为值钱（但因58谐音“唔发”，加上“唔”粤语是“不”、“否定”的意思，58类似“不发”，所以有著相反形势）。
