        RenderWare引擎（简称RW）是英国Criterion Games公司开发的游戏引擎。

        简介[编辑]

        RenderWare是一个跨平台的3D API和图形渲染引擎，包括图形、虚拟现实和网络连接的部分，由英国Criterion Software公司（曾是佳能的全资子公司，现在是美国艺电的一部分）开发，首发于1993年。

        它起源于GPU出现之前的CPU软件渲染时代，与其他同类的引擎竞争，如Argonaut Games的BRender和RenderMorphics的Reality Lab（后者被微软收购，成为Direct3D）。

        RenderWare的主要商业意义在于为PS2图形编程的困难提供了一个现成的解决方案。当时它被誉为 "索尼的DirectX"。但是在v2版之前，需要使用外部编程或脚本语言才能利用RenderWare。而RenderWare 2开始自带脚本语言RWX（RenderWare脚本）。但是在RenderWare 3中，RWX被取消了。v3版主要改进了二进制模型文件格式。从v1到v4各个版本之间文件格式并不互通。

        RenderWare是跨平台的：它可以运行在Windows以及苹果Mac OS X上，还有各类主机如GameCube、Wii、Xbox、Xbox 360、PlayStation 2、PlayStation 3和PlayStation Portable。

        该引擎下诞生了包括GTA系列、仙剑4、仙剑5、战地2、大富翁等经典游戏。

        RenderWare在被EA收购后不再出售许可，但EA仍然会履行已有合同提供支持，即在Criterion遭收购之前授权该技术的外部开发人员仍然可以使用该软件。

        最后一版也就是RenderWare 4被EA消化吸收并融入其内部的其他引擎中，不再单独开发也不再有v5版。EA的高管Bing Gordon曾表示，RenderWare在新世代硬件中的表现不够好，尤其是在图形方面来说，RenderWare和Epic Games的虚幻引擎等对手比差强人意。他还表示，RenderWare团队 "主要是一个开发团队"（意指EA不愿意继续使用RenderWare）。
