Kathoey（泰语：กะเทย，皇家转写：Kathoey，IPA：[kaʔtʰɤːj]）是指泰国等地的一种性别认同，这种性别认同的个体类似于跨性别女性。但和典型的跨性别女性有一定区别，相当多的泰国人认为Kathoey属于第三性别，包括一些泰国的跨性别女性。

在古代，กะเทย是指雌雄同体，与现代含义不同。

换性者研究员、活动家普兰普里达·巴莫·娜·阿育塔雅（Prempreeda Pramoj Na Ayutthaya）指出，泰国存在对换性人教育与就业机会方面的性别歧视。2013年的多篇报导也指出，泰国尚未发现换性人从事高层官员、医生、律师、科学家以及公办学校教师等职位，在商业机构也不存在任职管理人员的换性人。简言之，对换性的女性来说，政府机构和大型企业的大门依旧紧闭。而这也是他们成为自雇人士或自由职业者的原因。无论是否为政府职员，泰国法律都不给予进行手术后的男性换女性的人在工作场合中穿着女性制服的权利。

1996年，一个大半由男同性恋与กะเทย组成的排球队（外号“铁娘子”）赢得全国排球大赛冠军。但是泰国政府以国家形象为由禁止其中两个kathoey参加国手队作国际比赛。กะเทย排球队的事件在2000年改编成卖座电影《人妖打排球》，并于2003年推出续集。

宗教文化

泰国虽有各种不同的宗教信仰，然而绝大部分的人是信奉佛教，是一个以佛教为主的国家。由于西方国家大多数以基督教为主，然而基督教与同性恋的立场相驳，上世纪认为同性恋违反基督教教义，所以在上世纪的西方国家对于同性恋较不开放，如今西方国家对于同性恋有渐渐开放态度。而泰国由于佛教立场没有与同性恋立场相驳的问题，这些促使泰国对于第三性别和同性恋较为包容和开放的原因之一。
