该模板的用法与Template:Automatic taxobox类似，具体请参阅上述模板。
目前暂无与{{Speciesbox}}类似的Template:Ichnospeciesbox，因为绝大多数遗迹化石相关条目是科或属的。
遗迹分类单元的最高等级是"Ichnos"。
