ZNC是一个IRC Bounce。用户客户端会先连上ZNC，然后再连上IRC服务器。ZNC支持传输层安全性协定以及IPv6。开发ZNC时所用到的编程语言是C++，该软件用到的许可证是Apache-2.0。ZNC的历史可以追溯至2004年7月，而且此后ZNC一直有人维护和开发[4][5][6][7]。自2012年以来，ZNC就已集成至IRC客户端中[8][9][10][11]。
