冠雉属（学名：Penelope）为鸡形目凤冠雉科的一个属。[2]本属鸟类均分布于中、南美洲，目前下属16个物种。[2]
命名历史[编辑]
该属是由德国动物学家布拉修斯·梅雷姆于1786年建立的属。[3]其模式种由法国自然学家勒内·普里姆韦尔·莱松指定为绿背冠雉。[1]属名Penelope来自拉丁语pene（意指“几乎、接近”）及古希腊语的λόφος（罗马化：lophos，意指“头冠”）。[4]在分类学上，这个属可能是肉垂冠雉属的近亲，两者约在15—20百万年前各自演化。[5]
