400米赛跑是一种常见的田径中跑项目。通常它是短跑中距离最长的。在标准的室外跑道上，400米正好是绕跑道一圈的长度。运动员从错列的的起跑线出发，并在全程中都分道赛跑。
目前男子400米赛跑世界纪录保持者是瓦伊德·范尼凯克[1]。他在2016年8月14日创下了43.03秒的记录。男子室内400米赛跑的世界记录则是Michael Norman创下的44.52秒。女子记录47.60秒则由玛丽塔·科赫保持着。奥斯卡·皮斯托利斯则拥有46.56秒的男子残奥会记录。[2]
