踝节目(Condylarthra)是已灭绝的有胎盘哺乳动物,主要生存于古新世始新世[2]踝节目是古新世最有特色哺乳动物,并显示了古新世哺乳动物群的演化程度。

与食虫类动物的祖先相比,踝节目成员显示了演化成杂食性草食性的最初迹象。大型的陆上草食性动物自从恐龙的灭绝后就消失了,食性的转移引发了踝节目的演化辐射,在澳洲以外的陆地上,生成了新生代不同类别的草食性有蹄动物。故此最原始的踝节目其实是某些现代有蹄类的共同祖先。虽然有些踝节目有细小的蹄,但最原始的形态是有爪的。

最近的分子DNA研究重整了哺乳动物的演化情况。近蹄类管齿目不再是奇蹄目偶蹄目鲸目的近亲[3][4],故有蹄类最少是从两个不同的分支独立演化而成的。这亦有可能由于踝节目本身是一个多系群,即踝节目内的成员未必是近亲。

除了南蹄目及现今的有蹄类外,踝节目被认为是其他己灭绝的哺乳动物(如中爪兽目恐角目)的祖先。[5][6]
