Dem Jointz自幼便對音樂展現出濃厚興趣，並曾在當地的教會裏打鼓。[3][6]

Dem Jointz 曾公開分享追尋音樂夢想時所面臨的挑戰。由於家人期望他能接受高等教育，並從事穩定、傳統的職業，他剛上大學時原想成為一名建築師，但最終為了專心做音樂而決定輟學。在職業生涯初期，他以微薄的價格出售自己製作的伴奏（beats），例如曾以800美元賣給饒舌團體 The Comrades；這次經驗讓他更有信心，相信音樂能成為維持生計的長久職業。當時，他努力在音樂夢想與全職工作間取得平衡，還曾任職於電信公司 AT&T Wireless。直到2005年遭到解僱後，他才下定決心全職投入音樂事業。[7]

在全職投入音樂事業前，Dem Jointz 曾在一家電信公司任職。2005年，他意外遭到解僱，這個轉折反倒成為他全心追求音樂事業的契機。[3]

2015年，他受邀成為Dr. Dre旗下廠牌Aftermath Entertainment的專屬製作人。同年，他參與了 Dr. Dre 第三張專輯《康普頓（英語：Compton (album)）》（2015年）中四首歌曲的製作；該專輯陣容星光熠熠，合作歌手包括史努比狗狗、肯德里克·拉馬爾與阿姆等巨星。[6]
