400米賽跑是一種常見的田徑中跑項目。通常它是短跑中距離最長的。在標準的室外跑道上，400米正好是繞跑道一圈的長度。運動員從錯列的的起跑線出發，並在全程中都分道賽跑。
目前男子400米賽跑世界紀錄保持者是瓦伊德·范尼凱克[1]。他在2016年8月14日創下了43.03秒的記錄。男子室內400米賽跑的世界記錄則是Michael Norman創下的44.52秒。女子記錄47.60秒則由瑪麗塔·科赫保持着。奧斯卡·皮斯托利斯則擁有46.56秒的男子殘奧會記錄。[2]
