白喉棒状杆菌是一种革兰氏阳性病原细菌，可引起白喉。 [2]白喉棒状杆菌于1884年由弗里德里希·勒夫勒等人发现。 [3]通常白喉棒状杆菌不致病，但在被携带特定毒素基因的噬菌体感染后即产生致病性[4]，该毒素正是引发白喉的关键[5]。
