1500米赛跑为田径竞赛项目之一，属于中长跑的一种。很多八百米跑者也很重视一千五百米和一英里比赛的成绩。一千五百米和一英里的跑者也一样，很重视三公里和二英里赛的成绩。许多一千五百米的选手也同样热衷于八百米田径赛和一千米室内赛。一千五百米的比赛既需要强大的有氧能力，也需仰赖速度和无氧能量系统，而且此种赛事的强度比最大摄氧量还高10%到12%。
