國家科學基金會（英語：National Science Foundation，縮寫為NSF），是美國政府獨立機構，1984年至1991年間曾頒發總統青年學者獎（Presidential Young Investigator Award），取代該獎項的NSF青年學者獎（NSF Young Investigator Awards）和總統教授學者獎（Presidential Faculty Fellows Program）也由該機構頒發[4]。
歷史[編輯]
由美國國會於1950年創立。該機構支持除醫學領域外的科學和工程學基礎研究和教育，負責醫學的同類機構為國家衛生研究院。2020年，該機構的財政預算增長2.5％，總金額為82.8億美金[5]。
美國國家自然科學基金會資助的項目占美國聯邦政府資助的美國大學基礎研究的20%。在某些領域，如數學、計算機科學、經濟學和社會科學，NSF是主要的聯邦贊助者。
NSF的主任、副主任和理事會24位成員，由美國總統任命、美國參議院批准[6]。NSF主任和副主任負責管理、計劃、預算和日常運作。NSF理事會一年開會6次，確定政策。
