NGC 3953（UGC 6870，PGC 37306）是大熊座的螺旋星系，屬於M109星系團（該星系團包含了50餘個星系）[3][4][5][6]。1781年3月12日，法國天文學家皮埃爾·梅尚發現了該星系[7]。
觀測歷史[編輯]
梅尚在給梅西耶的信中提及到了NGC 3953，NGC 3992和M97。梅西耶將M97加入了自己的星表但並未納入另外兩個。不過幾乎可以肯定的是，梅西耶觀測過這個星系。在梅西耶的私人記錄中，他對該星系做了描述並以NGC 3953的赤經和NGC 3992（M 109）赤緯記錄了NGC 3953[7]。
