白喉棒狀桿菌是一種革蘭氏陽性病原細菌，可引起白喉。 [2]白喉棒狀桿菌於1884年由弗里德里希·勒夫勒等人發現。 [3]通常白喉棒狀桿菌不致病，但在被攜帶特定毒素基因的噬菌體感染後即產生致病性[4]，該毒素正是引發白喉的關鍵[5]。
