3月10日，Red Velvet於官方Instagram帳户公開了新專輯的概念照，並標示了專輯名稱《The Velvet》及回歸日期為3月16日，是繼單曲《[[Be Natural]]》後時隔約兩年再度以'Velvet/柔軟'主題回歸，並在9至15日持續公開預告。第二張迷你專輯《The Velvet》内收錄了包含主打曲內的五首柔軟風格且多元化的歌曲，此外還收錄主打曲《One Of These Nights(7月7日)》的三種不同版本，將會和首張正規專輯《The Red》形成強烈對比。
